This MR is mostly bringing fixes necessary to start the work on the ODC examples and is concerning classes that would most probably be replaced/rewritten is the coming months as we switch to a more centralized MQ usage. In addition Mohammad is free only this week so it would be good if we could get them running with ODC in the coming days.

As such I would like to just merge it without a full review as soon as it passes the tests.
